The selected artist for the 2018 Davidson Horticultural Symposium is Jane Ellithorpe.
Jane is an accomplished artist, teacher, and long time beloved member of the Davidson Community. Over her 35 year career in the arts, Jane has sold her work to many area collectors on both a local and national level. Jane may be quoted in saying that “One of my most memorable commissions was for Charles Kuralt. I painted a rendering of the Kitty Hawk home he and his father built together. Mr. Kuralt thanked me with a note and signed copy of his book, North Carolina is My Home.” Jane has also been commissioned by the Town of Davidson on several occasions to render images depicting local scenes to be used for town events. A self taught artist, Jane is best known for the watercolors she paints featuring the vibrant flowers of area gardens. Her compositions show a particular sensitivity and appreciation for the community of plants that may be found coexisting within the garden, a relationship which may only be captured by an artist who is herself a garden lover. Many of these pieces as well as others will be available for viewing and purchase from the artist in the main atrium area of the Alvarez Student Union during the Symposium.
